A large tree crashed onto a parked car and the back of a taxicab around 4 p.m. Wednesday, but did not cause any injuries.
The tree landed across 23rd Street just outside the Foggy Bottom Metro station. Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Michael Brown said dry rot most likely caused the tree to fall.
MPD officers arrested a man shortly after the tree fell, after the man crossed the police line set up around the tree. An officer on the scene declined to comment on the arrest.
A firetruck blocked off 23rd Street at about 4 p.m., and MPD cars were still diverting traffic an hour later. Brown said the city’s Department of Public Works was on its way to cut up the tree.
Brown said the tree did not affect power, telephone or gas lines.
