Senior Justin Albright continued his recent hot streak by picking up some hardware Monday.
The hot-hitting infielder was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week for the first time in his career. It is the first time a GW baseball player has won the award since senior Owen Beightol last March.
Albright was on fire for the Colonials this week, batting .667 (12-of-18) as GW won three of its four games. He helped the team with five doubles, four runs, four RBIs, five stolen bases and a .994 slugging percentage.
On Wednesday, Albright opened up the week going 5-for-5, including a walk-off base hit in the 10th inning against Towson. He also started the game on the mound for GW, throwing 4 1/3 innings with four strikeouts.
In GW’s weekend series with Fordham, Albright went a combined 7-13 over the three games, including a double and an RBI to help secure the victory in game one.
An added testament to Albright’s strong performance: He did not strike out once in his 18 at-bats.
“I was seeing the ball well, I was slow at the plate and had a good rhythm,” Albright said after his Wednesday performance.
