Metropolitan Police Department officers arrested a man Wednesday after he allegedly swung a broken bottle at another person near 20th and I streets.
Anthony Banswick, 62, was also charged with assault of a police officer, simple assault, threatening others and possession of an open container of alcohol in addition to assault with a dangerous weapon, MPD public information officer Araz Alali said. The arrest occurred at about 6 p.m.
Alali said Banswick approached a woman at the bus stop and slapped her on the shoulder. He then pushed another person in the chest, Alali said.
When a third complainant approached Banswick, the man allegedly took a bottle of alcohol and broke it on the bus stop’s bench and then swung the broken end at the person. Banswick also threatened another person when MPD took him into custody, Alali said.
The police report did not specify why Banswick was charged with two counts of assault of a police officer, but Alali said such charges are often the result of violent resistance to arrest.
