After a mostly snowless snow day, the University announced that it will hold classes Thursday.

The University, the city and the federal government all closed Wednesday after meteorologists predicted between 4 and 8 inches of snow would dump onto the city.

Forecasters predicted the brunt of the bad weather would hit Wednesday around noon, but with temperatures in the high 30s throughout the day, flakes did not pile up.

Public schools in D.C. and nearby counties also cancelled classes Wednesday.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning at about 3 p.m. Tuesday. On top of the snowfall, which started Wednesday morning, winds could hit 35 m.p.h.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Association cancelled its paratransit service MetroAccess Tuesday afternoon ahead of the storm, but did not shut down other services.
