Colonials Chandler Vilander and Hannah Cox nabbed two Southern Division Weekly Awards this past week, being named Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Vilander, a sophomore goaltender, tallied 22 saves compared to 26 goals over 11 quarters of play in the Colonials four games at the CWPA/MAAC Crossover. Her 9.45 goals against average and .458 save percentage was one of the key factors in GW’s 3-1 record in the tournament. Vilander had arguably her best outing of the tournament against Siena, when she recorded seven saves while allowing just one goal in three quarters of action.
Cox, a freshman center, led the Colonials on the offensive side of the ball this weekend, scoring a team-high 18 goals in the four games, while also tallying six steals. The rookie scored at least four goals in all of GW’s match-ups, putting up a career-high five goals in both win against Villanova and Iona. Cox is the leading scorer thus far for the Colonials with 26 goals, and ranks just second on the team with 26 points.
