The Colonials took to the GW Softball Field for the first time this season Wednesday afternoon, splitting a matinee doubleheader with Drexel in their first day of action at home. GW won the first game 8-0, in five innings, but next dropped the second game 3-2.

Freshman Megan Rico took the mound in game one, playing for all five innings. She allowed just one hit, striking out two, with three walks.
Senior Tara Fogerty got GW’s offense moving in the bottom of the second, leading off with a double down the left field line. She advanced to third off senior Autumn Taylor’s single, and freshman Morgan Mateic drove both home with a two-run double.

The Colonials erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fourth, capitalizing on hot hitting and three Drexel innings. One more GW score in the bottom of the fifth, when senior Chelsea Lenhart reached home on an error, cemented the final score and ended the game.
In the second game, the Colonials’ offense continued its strong performance. Sophomore Victoria Valos lined a two-run home run over left field fence, giving GW an early lead in the first inning. But Drexel cut the deficit to a lone run in the third, capitalizing on a Colonial fielding error, and added two more in the sixth.
Despite loading the bases in the seventh inning, GW couldn’t regain the lead, and dropped the game 3-2.
