Hatchet reporter Emily Holland checks out some local venues to view the most glamorous awards show of the year.
The biggest event in Hollywood is right around the corner and you don’t need to spend the evening of glamour sitting in your dorm room watching on a tiny television. The Academy Awards are being celebrated all over the city. Here are a few ways to spend tomorrow night.
DC Film Society’s 21st Annual “And The Winner Is…” Oscar Party
For only $20 ($15 if you’re a member of the Film Society), you can enjoy watching the Oscars on the silver screen! Held at the Arlington Cinema ‘N’ Drafthouse, this annual celebration of film has it all. A broadcast of the red carpet will begin at 7 p.m., with the main event beginning at 8 p.m. Attendees who predict winners will receive prizes. You can also participate in the silent auction, which features autographed posters, DVD collections, and tickets to showings around the city. All proceeds from the auction will benefit Filmfest DC. For more details, ticket purchasing and directions, go to the Film Society’s website.
Red Carpet and Oscar Viewing Party at Commissary
One of D.C.’s hottest cafés is hosting a party you won’t want to miss. Commissary has all the necessities, including complimentary ballots, large viewing screens and a red carpet. Perhaps the best part is their innovative Academy Award themed menu. Last year, they featured cocktails such as “The Iron Lady” and “Tree of Life.” Don’t forget about their signature Truffle Popcorn. For good food and a good time, Commissary is the place to be. The main event begins at 8 p.m.
Glamour, Glitter, & Gold
If you’re feeling particularly glamorous on Oscar Sunday, make your way out the DC Center’s 8th Annual Oscar Gala. The event starts at 7 p.m., with tickets only $15. Get dressed up, walk their very own red carpet and be prepared to watch the awards on multiple big screens. There will also be a live DJ and an interactive Oscar game. This gala is 21+ and will be held at Town Dance Boutique. Proceeds go directly to support the DC Center’s LGBT programs and services. Tickets can be purchased online.
