Discount superstores T.J.Maxx and HomeGoods plan to open on M Street as part of a plan to revive an aging Georgetown mall.
Vornado Realty Trust, which owns The Shops at Georgetown Park, confirmed for the first time Wednesday that it had made a deal with the stores at a neighborhood government meeting, the Georgetown Metropolitan reported Thursday.
The retail chains signed a combined lease for 47,800 square feet in September, the Washington Business Journal reported then, but details had not been released. It would the first HomeGoods – which sell furniture and textiles – to open in the District, with several other stores in Maryland and Virginia.
H&M and J. Crew also agreed to expand their occupied space. Washington Sports Club will stay in the mall, but with a new entrance on M Street.
Two new restaurants may open along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, according to a flyer acquired by the Georgetown Metropolitan blog, and the outlet also reported that Michaels, an arts and crafts store, will take up residence at the indoor mall.
