The University has placed posters across campus with information about how students should respond in the event of an active shooter, taking precaution after the Connecticut elementary school shooting two weeks ago.
“We are increasing the visibility of active shooter information that is already available on the Campus Advisories website and found in our emergency response handbooks and on every AED device throughout campus,” Senior Associate Vice President of Safety and Security Darrell Darnell said.
The posters recommend individuals plan an escape route, hide from the shooter’s view or block entry and only take action against the shooter as a last resort. They also suggest how to recognize red flags among coworkers and what information to look out for to provide law enforcement officers.
Campus safety officials will not implement further precautionary measures at this time, University spokeswoman Candace Smith said in an email.
University President Steven Knapp signed a letter with more than 200 other college presidents last week, urging the Obama administration to tighten gun control.
