Chipotle Mexican Grill will open on campus as early as next semester, a University spokeswoman said Tuesday.

The burrito and taco eatery signed a lease with The Shops at 2000 Penn last week, University spokeswoman Michelle Sherrard said. It will move into the retail space formerly occupied by the UPS Store and The Burro.

The Foggy Bottom location will be the chain’s 13th restaurant in the District. Chipotle spokesman Chris Arnold said the restaurant has not yet laid out a construction schedule, and was not ready to comment further on the new location.

The addition of Chipotle is one of several recent changes to the University-owned property, which welcomed PAUL Bakery last month and will lose Kinkead’s Restaurant by the end of December. Management from The Shops did not return a request for comment.

Chipotle’s nearest location at 19th and M streets currently accepts GWorld. Chipotle tried to move to campus in 2005, looking to fill the building that now houses Tonic Restaurant.
