The two major candidates for president and their running mates might not be Colonials themselves, but Mitt Romney’s new VP hopeful came as close as he could to being a Colonial. He married one.
Janna Ryan, wife of presumptive vice-presidential Republican nominee Paul Ryan, graduated from GW Law School before marrying her husband in 2000.
If Romney wins the election, Ryan won’t be the first second lady to boast a relationship with GW.
Jane Hadley Barkley, wife of Harry Truman’s vice president Alben Barkley, worked at the University as a secretary in the 1960s after her husband’s death.
And Bess Truman, a former second lady herself, was a GW mom while her daughter Margaret pursued a degree in history before graduating in 1946.
Ryan, 43, has a bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College and has worked for firms including PricewaterhouseCoopers.
