Alumni fail to make ballot for local governing body

Two alumni who filed candidacy paperwork last month for positions on the neighborhood’s local governing body failed to collect enough signatures to make it onto the Nov. 6 ballot.

J.P. Blackford and Gabrielle Bluestone did not submit the 25 required signatures before the Aug. 8 deadline, voiding their chances to be listed as official candidates for the Foggy Bottom and West End Advisory Neighborhood Commission, according to a D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics release.

Blackford and Bluestone both did not return requests for comment.

Commissioners each represent smaller constituencies within the neighborhood, called single-member districts. The Foggy Bottom and West End ANC has eight individual districts.

Commissioner David Lehrman will defend the seat he has held for a decade, facing off against challenger Patrick Kennedy, a junior.

Junior Jackson Carnes is running unopposed in one of the two new districts approved by the D.C. Council in March. One district remains candidate-less.
