The School of Engineering and Applied Science tapped a cybersecurity researcher from a top federal agency for its May 18 commencement speech.
Ron Ross, a fellow at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, will discuss his experience in the budding field of cybersecurity.
Ross works as a computer scientist and information security researcher, leading an NIST group looking to standardize cybersecurity standards for the federal government and contractors.
He also works with the State Department in an international outreach program for information security. He graduated the United States Military Academy at West Point.
The engineering school has looked to grow its academic programs and research for in cybersecurity in recent years, and will launch a unique cybersecurity masters degree this next fall.
Last year, NASA Administrator Michael Griffin addressed SEAS graduates.
