Hatchet reporter Julie Alderman shares her latest musical obsessions.

“Some Nights”
Fun
This group blew up last September with its popular single “We Are Young,” but the band really hit its stride with “Some Nights” off its second album. The track is great for working out, getting ready for a night out or just walking to class. You can’t help but smile while listening to the chorus’ heavy beats and teenage angst-tinged lyrics. That’s what makes the group exactly what its name implies – fun.
“I Told You I Was Mean”
Elle King
Elle King’s raspy voice and accomplished guitar playing help color her simple songs with catchy choruses. “I Told You I Was Mean” is the anti-Adele song. Her decision to break up with her man brings out an empowering message for female listeners. Her lyrics are just as strong as her voice, which can turn a simple guitar riff into a piece of art. Expect to be seeing more of this talented performer.
“1957”
Milo Greene
Greene and his group create some of the best, most complex harmonies I’ve heard in a while. The simple lyrics are lifted by Greene’s musicality, which takes his songs to a totally different level. The catchy yet soothing bridge is an incredible example of Greene’s addictive musical style. It is rare to find such instrumental and vocal talent in a rocker but Milo Greene has got it. Give it two years at most until he blows up to superstar status.
