The GW Residence Hall Association earned an award for outstanding advocacy efforts at the organization’s regional gathering last weekend.
The chapter was recognized among 30 chapters from nearby states for its lobbying efforts on behalf of students living near construction sites on campus, the chapter’s president Matt Galewski announced this week.
“To win this award in its inaugural year is quite a feat, and to have the opportunity to bid for national recognition reflects well on the organization’s growth as a campus-wide advocate this year,” Galewski said.
The chapter will now be considered for recognition at this summer’s National Association of College and University Residence Halls conference.
Throughout the fall, students living near the Science and Engineering Hall and the Law Learning Center construction sites have reported excessive construction noise Monday to Saturday mornings.
RHA lobbied GW’s Division of Operations to take action on students’ construction complaints, handing out surveys to collect evidence of students’ continued frustration.
The group also distributed a petition urging the University “to uphold its commitment” to limit the morning hours of loud construction activity, which collected more than 500 signatures.
