The School of Business is hosting the second annual Business Gives Back event Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. at House of Sweden in Georgetown.
The event, which aims to connect and inspire current and past business students, will include an open bar, catering and live music.
School of Business Dean Doug Guthrie and Associate Dean for MBA Programs Liesl Riddle will speak at the event.
Katherine Oglietti, a graduate student earning a MA/MBA in international development and one of the event’s co-chairs, said a major goal of the event is to spark social change within corporations and to honor distinguished alumni and student initiatives.
“We wanted an event that showcased our student body and we wanted to give back to our local community,” Oglietti said.
Last year’s event raised over $5,000 for LearnServe International, a business school student-directed non-profit that teaches international social entrepreneurship in D.C. schools. Three student-led initiatives will be chosen to compete for the funds raised at Saturday’s event.
“A nomination process was used in order to narrow down these student initiatives, and based on voting from students and attendees present at the event, money will be awarded to the three student groups on a percentage basis,” Oglietti said.
The event will also recognize Dan Simons, partner at Founding Farmers and co-founder of Vucurevich Simons Advisory Group, with the first annual Business Gives Back Distinguished Alumni Award. Simons graduated from the business school in 1992 with a bachelor’s in business administration.
