Episcopal High School (Arlington, Va.) guard Kethan Savage, who announced his commitment to GW in August, signed his National Letter of Intent today.
Savage is listed as a three-star prospect and has a scouts grade of 89 out of 100 by ESPN.com and is also listed as a three-star prospect by Scouts.com and Rivals.com. The 6-foot-3, 190 pound guard is also ranked as a five-star football prospect by ESPN.com. Based on available figures for his 2010-11 season, Savage averaged 17.7 points per game and a 76.2 free throw shooting average.
Savage, who identifies himself as an intense competitor, is determined to help remake the Colonials into a powerhouse program. The guard intends to focus on skill work and up his strength in the year before he takes the court in the Smith Center.
“I hate losing with a real passion, so I’ll do whatever I need to do to help my team win,” Savage told The Hatchet in a previous interview. “If not scoring, rebounding. If not rebounding, defense. I’ll do whatever my team needs.”
Savage, who was the first recruit commitment for first-year head coach Mike Lonergan, is also the first to sign his letter of intent. He’ll be joined on the court next year by power forward Kyprianos Maragkos and power forward Patricio Garino. Savage is a clear indication of Lonergan’s stated desire to bring more local recruits into GW’s program.
