Freshman Janica Lee was named the Atlantic 10 Women’s Swimming Rookie of the Week Monday, after a weekend where she lead the Colonials with three first-place finishes against Bucknell.
In what was just the fourth meet of her collegiate career, Lee posted two all-time top-10 performances in program history. She earned a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:23.18, placing her eighth all-time on GW’s record list, and swam a time of 1:06.86 in the 100-yard breaststroke, tying her for 10th all-time.
“I am really happy with how Janica has been performing this year,” head coach Dan Rhinehart said. “Coming from Canada, she is used to swimming meters as opposed to yards so she doesn’t even realize how well she is doing.”
Lee was also a member of the first-place finishing 200-yard medley relay team that posted a time of 1:49.74.
GW next heads to a dual meet at UMBC Oct. 29.
