The Wombats, an indie rock band hailing from Liverpool, rocked a crowded 9:30 Club on Friday, with a mix of new songs and crowd-favorites.

After opening with “Our Perfect Disease” from the band’s new album called “This Modern Glitch,” drummer Dan Haggis told fans this was his first time to the District.

“I saw the White House for the first time today,” said Haggis. “Some of the best and worst government decisions were made there.”

The group made sure to bring back crowd favorites from their self-titled 2008 EP and their 2007 album, “A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation.”

Before starting “Little Miss Pipedream,” lead singer Matthew Murphy encouraged audience members to “hold up lighters, iPhones, basically anything that lights up.”

After a rousing version of “Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves),” the band members promised to come out for an encore only if the audience cheered loud enough.

The band reemerged and played “Anti-D” and ended its set with a fan favorite, “Let’s Dance to Joy Division.”

The Wombats continues their tour tonight in Philadelphia.

This article was changed Oct. 24, 2011 to reflect the following:
Based on an editing error, The Hatchet incorrectly reported The Wombats performed a song called “Pipedream Princess.” In fact, the song is titled “Little Miss Pipedream.”
