GW defeated its CWPA rival Johns Hopkins 15-13 last night, fighting to come from behind and ensure a regular-season sweep of the Blue Jays.

GW was paced by strong offensive efforts from freshman Ridvan Pehlivan and sophomore Nate Little, who scored six and five goals, respectively. Their commanding play answered the lack of sophomore Daniel Tyner in the roster, who was sidelined for his second straight game due to injury. Earlier this season, Tyner netted nine goals to push the Colonials to a 14-13 victory over the Blue Jays.
“It was basically a great game,” head coach Scott Reed said. “Our guys never lost their composure by any means. It’s definitely a big win for us.”
The Colonials trailed 8-6 at halftime, but battled back to enter the final period knotted at 10. Little slammed the ball past the Johns Hopkins keeper to give GW its first lead of the night just 37 seconds into the period, but the Blue Jays quickly tied the score again. Undeterred, Pehlivan earned a goal of his own just 10 seconds later, followed by quick rallying scores from Little and freshman Brian Mojica, who scored within 35 seconds of each other.
Junior goalkeeper Cameron Illes posted 13 saves on the match, the same number as in GW’s victory over the Blue Jays earlier this season.
GW will play three games in two days Oct. 21 and Oct. 22 in Princeton, N.J., with the first match scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Friday.
