Holly Farris will join GW on the sidelines next season as the newest member of the softball coaching staff.

Farris comes to Foggy Bottom after a four-year collegiate career with Texas A&M, playing right field for the Aggies from 2005 to 2009. During the 2008 season, Farris and the Aggies traveled to their first Women’s College World Series appearance since 1987. The same year, she was named a Verizon Scholar-Athlete, earning spots on the Big 12 Conference’s All-Conference, All-Tournament and All-Academic First Teams. During her senior season with Texas A&M, Farris was named to the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-Central Region Team and was awarded Player of the Week accolades by USA Softball and Louisville Slugger/NFCA.

“We are fortunate and excited that coach Farris has accepted the assistant coaching position at GW, as her experiences with one of the top programs in the nation are invaluable,” head coach Stacey Schramm said. “We look forward to coach Farris sharing ideas and techniques with our student-athletes, and there is no doubt she will be a key component in raising the bar for this program.”

The Sugar Land, Texas native spent the past year working as a graduate assistant in Texas A&M’s Division of Sports Management. She still ranks seventh on the Aggies all-time home runs list.

The Colonials split their first preseason action last Sunday, defeating Howard 11-3 but falling 0-3 to the University of Maryland later that day.
