Alumnus Gautam Raghavan will assume the position of full-time LGBT liaison in the White House Office of Public Engagement, media outlets report.
Though the White House has not formally announced the appointment, LGBT advocates close to the decision told reporters that Raghavan, currently the deputy White House liaison at the Department of Defense, will step into the role in October.
Raghavan, a 2007 alumnus of the Graduate School of Political Management, was one of the Pentagon officials who managed the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” on Sept. 20, marking the end of the 1993 policy targeting homosexuals in the military.
The position was previously filled by Brian Bond, who simultaneously served as deputy director of the OPE for the first two years of the Obama administration. Bond will become director of constituency outreach at the Democratic National Committee.
Before joining the White House in 2009, Raghavan worked for the Democratic National Committee as the Midwest finance director and director of the Indo-American Leadership Council.
