The University cancelled G-Dub First Night, a social event for freshmen, in anticipation of severe weather conditions resulting from Hurricane Irene.
House Staff will instead conduct alternative programming inside individual residence halls, University spokeswoman Michelle Sherrard said.
First Night, scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. and run past midnight, advertised bowling, billiards, giveaways, free food, dancing and laser tag.
The impending hurricane forced the cancellation of two evening volleyball games and a Residence Hall Association promotional event Saturday. Events slated in and outdoors for Sunday – the Legacy Family Welcome Reception, Movie on the Yard, two Greek-letter barbecues and several other student organization gatherings – were called off as well.
