Meg Murphy, a forward for the women’s soccer team, has been named to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Rookie Team, earning the honor as the Colonials prepare to host Georgetown in their season opener Aug. 19.
Murphy was an all-district and all-region selection throughout her high school career. She was an Olympic Development Program Region I Pool player in 2006 and 2007, playing in the National ODP Championship Tournament in 2009. Murphy also attended National Identification Camp in 2007.
“Meg is a force to be reckoned with up front,” women’s soccer head coach Tanya Vogel said. “Her athleticism, matched with her size, makes her an ideal target forward.”
Murphy split her high school career, playing her first two seasons at Bishop O’Connell High School, where she earned Washington Catholic Athletic Conference All-Conference honors and helped the program play its way to a 2007 WCAC Regular Season Championship and the tournament finals for two straight years. Murphy spent her final two seasons at Fairfax High School, where she was named to the Liberty District Second Team and led her team to both the Liberty District and Northern Region Tournaments.
