Capital Fringe Festival returns to D.C. for it’s sixth summer showcase. The theater festival takes place across multiple locations and features diverse play groups bringing a broad range of drama, comedy and every category in-between to the stage. This year’s festival takes place from July 7 to the 24. To attend you must by a $7 admission button and pay $17 per show. The buttons also open you up to discounts at bars and restaurants. Multi-day passes also available.
Weekend Festival Highlights:
Saturday
“Illuminopolis,” a show incorporating the circus, burlesque and elaborate costumes. The show is at the Warehouse Theater located at 645 New York Ave. and starts at 6:45 p.m.
“Fat Men in Skirts,” by the Molotov Theatre Group, is a show about a mother and her son who survive an airplane crash, only to then face life-altering choices. At 1409 Playbill Cafe located at 1409 14th St. The show starts at 8 p.m.
Sunday
“In Between Takeoff and Landing,” New York-based writer and performer Michael Walsh delivers a comedic solo show about New York City-bound airline passengers stranded in Newfoundland, Canada on 9/11. The show is at the Goethe Institut located at 812 Seventh St. at 8:30 p.m.
“That’s What She Sang,” a performance of six men from a gay support group who discuss the finer things in life sing a medley of musical theater tunes. The show takes place at Studio Theatre located at 1501 14th St. NW. Sunday’s show is at 2 p.m.

The Dalai Lama will be visiting D.C. to give his Kalachakra, in hopes of inspiring harmonious relationships and peace in throughout the world. Saturday morning he will deliver a plea for world peace at the U.S. Capitol at 9:30 a.m. Whoopi Goldberg will be emceeing the event and singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Skylar Gray will attend.
Béla Fleck & the Flecktones, a modern jazz meets bluegrass group, will perform at Wolf Trap with the Carolina Chocolate Drops and Abigail Washburn & The Village. Tickets are $25 to $40 and the show is at 7 p.m on Sunday.
