AFI  Silverdocs continues in Silver Spring, Md. this weekend with documentaries from around the world bringing cultural, social and political issues to the silver screen. To escape the summer heat, hop on the Red line and check out these three standout films:

“Dragonslayer”: Friday 9:30 p.m.

The California sun illuminates skateboarder Josh “Screech” Sandoval’s unusual life as he careens through a chaotic existence while maintaining an unwavering optimism. Imagine “Lords of Dogtown” meets a modern, Orange County version of “Into the Wild.”

“Life in a Day”: Saturday 10 p.m. and Sunday 11:45 a.m.

Imagine peering through a window into the lives of people from 192 countries.  “Life in a Day” is the edited culmination of 80,000 video submissions, from both professional and amateurs, to illustrate desires, dreams and everything in between.

“Incendiary: The Willingham Case”: Friday 1:15 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 p.m.

Cameron Todd Willingham was executed in Texas for the arson murders of his three daughters. This film explores the massive evidence that points toward his innocence and the influence it has had on forensics and the anti-death penalty movement.

Free reggae night at the Carter Baron Amphitheater on Colorado Avenue and 16th Street at 7:30 p.m. features Archives (feat. Lenny Kurlou), Passion Reggae Band and Carl Malcolm & Positive Vibrations Band.

Call in sick, say the dog ate your homework or just snooze the alarm and cool off at the all-day Hookie “Day Fete and Pool Party” at the Capitol Skyline Hotel. Tickets are $20 in advance and includes and open bar from noon until 2 p.m.

Saturday

D.C. Carribean Carnival brings island flavor to the District, starting at Kansas Avenue NW and continuing to Georgia Avenue and Barry Place NW where a Howard University parking lot will host music, food and entertainment from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Have a love for chicken and ribs doused in barbecue sauce? National Capitol Barbecue Battle takes place Saturday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Pennsylvania Avenue, between 10th and 14th streets. Tickets are $12.

D.C. United takes on Houston Dynamo at RFK Stadium for college night. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 the day of with a college ID.
