A 2010 graduate of the University of Vermont will join the men’s basketball staff as the assistant director of basketball operations. Though his hire has yet to be formally announced and he is not listed on the staff directory, Maurice Joseph confirmed the news on his Twitter.
Joseph’s hire adds another former Catamount to GW’s staff, after head coach Mike Lonergan, formerly the head coach at Vermont, hired former Vermont assistant coach Hajj Turner as the associate head coach of the Colonials.
Joseph transferred to Vermont prior to the 2007-08 season, sitting out a year before joining the Catamounts on the court. In 2009-10, a a senior, Joseph finished second on the team in scoring and ninth overall in the America East (averaging 13.9 ppg) and ended the year as Vermont’s top three-point shooter by hitting 37.4 percent of his attempts, which was good for seventh-best in the conference. His 84.8 percent shooting from the free throw line was the best on the team and was second in the league. That season, Joseph reached double figures in points 29 times, including topping 20 on five occasions.
Joseph’s younger brother, Kris Joseph, is a standout forward for Syracuse University, a potential opponent for the Colonials in the upcoming season.
