Opening this Saturday for fellow indie rock artists Bright Eyes and M. Ward at the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in Vienna, Va., Dawes returns to the D.C. area after a sold out performance earlier this spring at the 9:30 Club.
Dawes front man Taylor Goldsmith appeared on stage at the club first as a part of Dawes and then in a collaboration with indie folk band Deer Tick’s John McCauley and soulful rock group Delta Spirit’s Matthew Vasquez to form the trio Middle Brother. Combining to create a sound dripping with Americana and bluesy country roots, both Dawes and Middle Brother form the perfect soundtrack for a tranquil summer afternoon.
Dawes’ sophomore album, “Nothing is Wrong” will be released June 7 and has already received positive reviews from both Paste and Spin Magazine. With lyrics focusing on the California rockers time spent on the road, their sound often combines the twang of Southern soul with melodic harmonies reminding the listener of their California roots.
Tracks to check out from their first CD “North Hills” include “When My Time Comes” and “Fire Away.” Easy summer listening from “Nothing is Wrong” can be found on the tracks “If I Wanted Someone” and “My Way Back Home.”
Saturday’s show begins at 7 p.m. Lawn tickets for the event are $28 and in-house seats are $32. Round-trip bus service is available from the West Falls Church-VT/UVA Metrorail Station to Wolf Trap for $5.
