Former GW pitcher Mike O’Connor has been added to the active roster of the New York Mets after the MLB club purchased his contract Wednesday.
O’Connor, a 2002 graduate of GW, has a 2-1 record this season with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons, the Triple-A affiliate of the Mets. O’Connor’s thrown 16 strikeouts this season, earning a 3.31 ERA in 16 and one-third relief innings.
A seventh-round selection in the 2002 First-Year Player Draft, O’Connor will be only the fourth Colonials baseball player to make the majors. He played for GW from 1998-2002, and was a member of the Colonials’ 2002 Atlantic 10 Championship team. He currently ranks second in program history in appearances, with 83, tied for third in saves, with ten, and 14th in strikeouts, with 202.
