GW men’s tennis team will face No. 11 seed Duke in the first round of the 2011 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championships.
It will be the first ever NCAA Championship appearance for the Colonials, who earned the bid after winning the 2011 Men’s Tennis Atlantic 10 Championship. The match will either be held May 13 or May 14.
GW (15-8) and Duke (20-9) have not met since 1959. The Blue Devils lead the all-time series between Duke and GW 6-1. The winner of their match-up will advance to the second round to face the winner of the other first-round match between Maryland and Michigan.
The Colonials’ A-10 victory was the program’s second ever and their first since 1979.
