The Class of 2011 will hear from business moguls, NASA administrators and District leaders during its graduation weekend next month.
GW released a final list of graduation speakers Thursday, filling out empty speaker spots for the School of Public Health and Health Services and the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences.
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will address graduates at the University-wide Commencement Ceremony May 16, with 11 other speakers taking stages throughout the three-day celebration.
“Our selection of this year’s distinguished speakers and honorary degree recipients expresses the university’s commitment to developing leaders, encouraging service to others and pursuing excellence in all we do,” University President Steven Knapp said. “Their participation in our commencement activities is an honor for the university and will inspire our 2011 graduates.”
Graduate student Collin Stevenson will address his fellow graduates at the University-wide Commencement ceremony after beating out seven other students for the spot. Stevenson will graduate with an M.A. in international affairs, marking it the third year in a row that the student speaker hails from the Elliott School of International Affairs.

Friday, May 13
Lori Garver, M.A. ’89, NASA deputy administrator, will speak to undergraduate and graduate students at the Elliott School of International Affairs’ celebration at 11 a.m. at the Charles E. Smith Center.
Lou Rosenfeld, B.B.A. ’80, managing director in the mortgage-backed-securities department at Goldman Sachs, will speak to undergraduate students at the GW School of Business celebration at 4 p.m. at the Charles E. Smith Center.
Mark Lerner, B.B.A. ’75, principal owner and vice chairman of the Washington Nationals Baseball Club, will speak to the graduate students at the GW School of Business celebration at 7:30 p.m. at the Charles E. Smith Center.
Geraldine “Polly” Bednash, CEO and executive director of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, will speak to undergraduate and graduate students at the School of Nursing celebration at 5 p.m. at the Betts Marvin Theatre.
Saturday, May 14
Matthew Tosiello, M.Ed. ’08, Arlington County Teacher of the Year, will address graduates at the Graduate School of Education and Human Development celebration at 8 a.m. in the Charles E. Smith Center.
John Sides, GW assistant professor of political science, will address graduates at the noon Columbian College of Arts and Sciences celebration at the Charles E. Smith Center.
Kate Roberts, vice president of corporate marketing and communications of Populations Services International, will speak to graduates of the School of Public Health and Health Services at noon in Lisner Auditorium.
Chris Cahill, GW associate professor of chemistry, will address the 3:30 p.m. Columbian College of Arts and Sciences celebration at the Charles E. Smith Center.
Michael D. Griffin, M.Eng. ’98, former administrator of NASA, will speak at the School of Engineering and Applied Science celebration at 7:30 p.m. in the Charles E. Smith Center.
Anthony P. Carnevale, research professor and director of the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, will address graduates of the College of Professional Studies at 7:30 p.m. in Lisner Auditorium.
Sunday, May 15
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Collin Stevenson will deliver remarks during the University-wide Commencement Ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on the National Mall.
Bill Magee, M.D. ’72, founder of Operation Smile, will speak to graduates of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences-M.D. celebration at 2:30 p.m. in Lisner Auditorium.
John Snow, J.D. ’67, who served as the 73rd United States Secretary of the Treasury, will speak at the GW Law School celebration at 2:30 p.m. in the Charles E. Smith Center.
