Students were evacuated from Gelman Library Wednesday after an overheated elevator belt prompted a fire alarm at about 1:30 a.m.

Chief Donald Martin said the overheated belt tripped a smoke detector and that students were permitted to return to the building shortly. Firefighters did a roof check and searched the building before confirming there was no fire in the building.
