Crepeaway opens NYU location

This post was written by Hatchet reporter Ashley Larkin.

Popular off-campus eatery Crepeaway opened a location in New York City this week, the first offshoot franchise for the D.C. venue.

The new eatery, serving up both sweet and savory crepes, is located off Washington Square Park near New York University.

“Most of the business is going to be from NYU,” owner Saad Jallad said. “It’s like having a restaurant in Kogan Plaza.”

Jallad signed the lease for 31 Waverly Place in early December and has been working on developing the new branch for the past three months. He said he was inspired to move to New York when his girlfriend, who is studying nutrition at NYU, found a vacant space near the campus.

His motivation to expand also comes from a desire to connect with GW students even when they are away from the District.

“Most of the students who go to GW are from the New York-New Jersey area,” Jallad said. “I wanted to let them know that when they’re home for spring break or winter break, Crepeaway is still there. Just because you’re not in Washington, D.C. doesn’t mean you can’t have crepes.”
