To say that the women’s basketball team’s game Thursday night against Marshall was highly contested would be an understatement. After ten lead changes, nine ties, and double overtime, the Colonials wound up on the wrong side of a 64-61 final score, snapping the Colonials three-game winning streak.
Sophomore Danni Jackson led GW on offense, scoring a career-high 17 and adding seven assists in 41 minutes. Jackson’s biggest contribution of the night, however was a 15-foot jump shot with 1:18 left in regulation to send the game into its first overtime.
Unfortunately for GW, Jackson wasn’t the only player on the court Thursday to have career-best night. Marshall senior forward Tynikki Crook scored a career-high 32 points against the Colonials, 25 of which came in the second half. It was Cook who scored the eventual game-winner for the Thundering Herd in the second overtime with 16 seconds to play.
Juniors Tara Booker and Ivy Abiona each followed their performances Tuesday night with another strong game against Marshall. Booker scored 15 points, including four three-pointers and Abiona finished with eight points and nine rebounds in a career-best 47 minutes of play.
Next up for the Colonials will be a match-up against Orange Line rival George Mason at the Smith Center Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
