GW Law School alumnus Jack Conway lost the Senate race in Kentucky to Tea Party-backed candidate Rand Paul Tuesday night, according to CNN’s Election Center.
Prior to the election, the campaign was a hot-topic discussion for many political pundits because of Paul’s close ties with Tea Party activists.
The campaign was also wrought with dirty politics; last month, Conway released an attack ad which criticized Paul’s religious activities while in college. During a campaign stop in late October, Paul supporters stomped on the head of one of Conway’s supporters.
Conway, who is the state’s attorney general, graduated from the University in 1995. Both candidates were in their first race for the Senate, campaigning for a seat left open by retiring Sen. Jim Bunning.
