Eat your heart out Chicago. Washington, D.C. is the third best major metro area for college students in the United States according to a new index released by the American Institute of Economic Research.

Sure, the monuments and memorials are great, but the institute used other factors when determining the rankings. Their 12 criteria were grouped into general categories including quality of life, academic environment and professional opportunity, according to USA Today.

D.C. only ranks below San Francisco and New York City.
