For laptop-addicts and shopaholics J.C. Penney launched a virtual fitting room to combine the ease of online shopping with the precision of trying outfits on in a store.
According to a New York Times article, Metaio, a software developer, collaborated with J.C. Penney to generate the laptop-lover’s solution to shopping.
The fitting room, available now on Seventeen.com and Kaboodle.com, accesses the user’s webcam and displays a cartoon female figure complete with a cutesy coiffure. After hitting the menacing “Start” key, the shopper has 5 seconds to fit herself roughly into the figure.
By moving her hands towards icons on the sides and corners of her screen, the shopper can scroll through an arsenal of Penney’s products and enlarge or reduce the image to fit her. She can even snap a photo and share it on Facebook.
The virtual fitting room conveniently links the shopper to J.C. Penney’s online store if she wants to purchase the real thing.
