Although GW is pegged as one of the most expensive schools in the country, cross-town Georgetown has more expensive freshman room and board costs, according to a study released by Forbes Magazine.
The study – which found that freshman room and board prices at schools nationwide have risen 11 percent over the past three years – ranked Georgetown second highest in the nation for freshman room and board costs. Incoming freshmen at Georgetown can expect to pay an average of $12,750. Sarah Lawrence College in New York ranked first, with an average cost of $13,000.
While GW did not fall in the top ten, some living options for freshmen cost more than the $8,000 national average that Forbes calculated. For the 2010-2011 school year, freshman living costs range from $6,720 to $9,280, according to GW Housing Program’s website.
According to the study, many of the 450 four-year institutions across the country that require freshmen to live on campus charge more than the national average for room and board, including neighboring Georgetown.
Housing options for upperclassmen at GW start at $8,300, while the most expensive undergraduate housing, including rooms in City Hall and South Hall, top out at $12,650.
