Metropolitan and University police shut down part of 23rd Street Monday evening after a suspicious package was reported in front of Townhouse Row.
An officer on scene confirmed that a “suspicious package” led to the shut down of 23rd Street between G and F streets at around 7:20 p.m. By 7:45 p.m. the street was reopened to traffic and pedestrians. The package appeared to be a black bag near the Sigma Kappa and Pi Kappa Phi townhouses.
Entrances to Ivory Tower on 23rd Street were closed off but residents were allowed to exit the building through the G Street entrance. Part of townhouse row was closed off.
D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services was not called to respond to the situation, spokesman Pete Piringer said. MPD did not immediately respond to questions.
Last week, a suspicious package shut down 19th and F streets for nearly five hours.
