GW grad recognized as rising artist

Recent graduate Lindz Routt will be recognized as one of the “32 Under 32” artists to watch in the District for innovative and outstanding work at the June Salon for the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities.

Routt’s month-long exhibition “Take Away,” which opened on May 7 at the Affinity Lab on U Street, earned her a spot on the list.

The project – a collaboration with GW-based band TNTrio – asked visitors to write and draw on the panels next to her paintings. In exchange for their contributions, Routt chose 15 visitors to receive free paintings.

Routt told The Hatchet in May that she based her exhibition on “the concept of giving back art” in exchange for life experiences.

In addition to making the list, the 32 artists being recognized will be awarded with funding from the 2010 Young Artist Grant Program.

“32 Under 32,” hosted by Connor Contemporary Art and Industry Gallery, will take place on Saturday June 26 from 5 to 8 p.m. at 1358 Florida Ave. in the Northeast.
