June 18: Your Weekend Outlook

CI has begun! And with hoards of incoming freshmen running around, it is time for upperclassman to get off campus. Here is a list of things to do in the city while freshmen take over campus.
  • If you’re into French culture or just interested in a free show, check out Alliance de Francaise’s celebration Friday in honor of France’s Fete de la Musique which celebrates live music all over the streets of France. A few days early, the Alliance will be running an open stage for local bands as well as hosting a DJ later on into the night. The event is free until 10 p.m. and is $10 after. (Editor’s note: I’m currently in Paris excitedly awaiting the Fete de la Musique myself!)
  • Into local music? Digital Capital Week is holding its closing party techARTS this Saturday at the 9:30 Club. 34,000 votes chose the top 11 bands to be invited to play the event. You can listen to samples, find links to the bands’ websites, and buy tickets here. The event will be from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. Tickets are $20.
  • For even more culture this weekend, check out Festa Italiana D.C. on Sunday. The Italian Cultural Society will be hosting a variety of events from cooking classes to live music and even free samples of gelato. The event is free.
