The annual touring hip hop festival Rock the Bells is coming to D.C. in August—without Lauryn Hill.
Despite rumors circulating online that claimed Hill would headline the show, this year’s tour will actually include full-album performances from the Wu-Tang Clan, Rakim, KRS-One, and Slick Rick, as well as appearances from several other acts and even a few surprise guests.
Rock the Bells began in Southern California in 2004, and has since expanded into a nationwide (and, more recently, international) tour that occasionally stops in the District.
The festival limited its tour to four cities this year: Los Angeles, San Francisco, D.C., and New York. As concert promoter Chang Weisberg explained to URB Magazine, these four cities have been the concert’s most supportive, and they make for an even east coast-west coast split. Weisberg said Rock the Bells aims to eventually become a two-day festival.
Rock the Bells visits Merriweather Post Pavilion on August 29, 2010. Ticketing information is not yet available.
