Despite high fundraising totals and an endorsement from Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, anti-war Republican and GW alumnus Adam Kokesh lost his fight for the Republican nomination in the New Mexico 3rd Congressional District Tuesday night.

With 61 percent of precincts reporting, New Mexico’s NBC affiliate KOB called the election for businessman Tom Mullins before 10 p.m. Mullins won in an landslide, capturing 72 percent of the vote compared to Kokesh’s 28 percent.

Mullins will attempt to unseat Democratic incumbent Ben Luján in November. Luján did not face a primary challenge.

Kokesh is a 2008 graduate of the Graduate School of Political Management. He is best known at GW for a poster campaign he co-authored that sparked a campus-wide controversy in 2007.
