The Metropolitan Police Department arrested a man suspected of conducting more than 10 armed ATM robberies in the first and second police districts.
According to the press release, on May 18, MPD attained an arrest warrant for 44-year-old John Fenley Woodland after suspecting he approached individuals at an ATM in the 600 block of Massachusetts Avenue, forcing them to withdraw additional funds at the threat of a knife.
Secret Service agents witnessed an armed robbery of a citizen at an ATM on the 800 block of 17th Street Wednesday night and arrested the attacker, and MPD arrived at the scene and recognized the suspect as Woodland, according to the statement. The 800 block of 17th Street is one block of GW’s campus.
Woodland has been charged with two counts of armed robbery and an outstanding bench warrant. Officials are still investigating Woodland’s possible connections to similar crimes across Northwest D.C.
