The GW women’s water polo team officically announced its seven-player 2011 recruiting class on Wednesday, the largest ever recruiting class for GW head coach Scott Reed in his 11-year tenure in Foggy Bottom.
The class is headlined by six high school Academic All-Americans in Rachael Bentley, Katherine Berry, Erin Dickson, Allison Littlejohn, Kayley Marshall and Adina Zepfel. The seventh new Colonial, Megan Brolley, was a National Interscholactic Swim Coaches Association Second-Team All-American last season.
The incoming class of freshman will be expected to contribute immediately, Reed said, in order to replace the five seniors who will graduate later this week. The newest Colonials will have large shoes to fill as they attempt to replace a group that included a pair of 2010 College Water Polo Association All-Southern Division first team members in Marissa Stamler and Allison Peotter. Stamler led GW in scoring last season with 51 goals and is the fifth leading scorer in GW history with 139 career goals. Peotter had team highs last season in both steals and assists, with 55 and 33, respectively.
