Cause of fire in Kappa Kappa Gamma house still undetermined, official says

The cause of Saturday afternoon’s fire in the Kappa Kappa Gamma house is still undetermined, a D.C. Fire spokesman said Tuesday.

D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services spokesman Pete Piringer said the exact cause of the fire – which caused about $5,000 worth of damage – may never be known, adding that there has not been any clear evidence to determine a cause.

“[Fire investigators] did indicate that the fire was accidental,” Piringer said, adding that the fire started on a desktop and involved papers. “It doesn’t appear to be anything malicious.”

Piriner said no charges have been brought against the occupants of the room.

“We’ll keep it open,” Piringer said of the investigation into the fire’s cause. “It’s not active, but it’s open.”
