A small kitchen fire in the Jefferson House apartment building was extinguished Sunday night, but not before causing an evacuation of the building and a large response from D.C. Fire.
Just before 7:30 p.m., fire trucks from Engine Company 1 responded to the building, located behind GW Hospital. A firefighter on scene said food on a stove on the 5th floor of the building caught fire, causing the response from D.C. Fire.
No injuries were reported, and residents were allowed to return to their rooms soon after.
