Pedestrian hit by car at 22nd and G streets

A female pedestrian was hit by an SUV on the corner of 22nd and G streets around 1:00 p.m., according to reports on the scene and a D.C. Alert.

Virginia resident John Bunting, the driver of a black Ford F150 who hit the woman, said he was the second car to turn left onto G Street during a green light and that the woman was not in the cross walk when he “bumped her.”

“I don’t know how she got in front of me,” Bunting said, adding that he was on campus to see Alan Zebrak, director of operations for the Athletics Department.

Mary Jo Warner, senior associate director of athletics, said the woman’s name is Nikki and that she works in the ticketing office of the Smith Center.

The woman was seen standing with the assistance of police officers and EMTs, but was taken by ambulance.

“It was not a serious situation,” said Pete Piringer, public information officer for D.C. Fire, adding that the pedestrian, a female in her early 20s, was “taken to area hospital for a check up.”

Emily Cahn contributed to this report.
