Samantha Santacroce, senior
“It’s the first thing you look at when you meet someone, it is a way of introducing yourself without any words,” said senior Samantha Santacroce of the importance of personal style. In the eighty-five degree heat, she looked fresh and summery in a simple cotton dress and intricate metallic gladiator sandals. Santacroce described her style as trendy, bohemian and urban, but still not “over the top.” To get inspired she looks to magazines, people on the street and even Perez Hilton in order to find the season’s latest trends.

Hailing from Egypt, Elsayad definitely knows how to rock his style on the streets of D.C half a world away from home. He caught our attention by mixing casual pieces with more adventurous ones. His wining outfit included distressed faded jeans, a basic tee and a few accessories to spice the look up. Describing his style as “matching, classy and whatever I think looks good,” he noted that one’s fashion sense reflects one’s identity, and stressed the point that price should not matter when putting an outfit together. When asked about his pink “I love Miami” trucker hat, Elsayad responded, “Well, I love Miami!”

“Classic and feminine with a bit of an edge” is how this chic Chicago native described her personal style. She first caught our eye with her bright green printed dress, perfect for lounging on the grass in Kogan Plaza. Shapiro said she likes to combine affordable items with more pricey ones, and that it is important not to dress “full-on designer.” As for her inspiration, she said she looks to the styles of Diane Kruger and Chloe Sevigny as well as Zac Posen and Alice & Olivia. And occasionally, she confessed, she likes to promote her edgy side by sporting red lipstick.
