Slideshow: Easter Egg Roll

First lady Michelle Obama said she was pleased the GW community completed her 100,000-hour community service challenge at the annual Easter Egg Roll Monday afternoon.

Obama, who was joined by President Barack Obama and their two daughters for the activities on the White House’s South Lawn, told The Hatchet she had been informed GW surpassed their community service goal.

“That’s great – great job,” Obama said. “I’m looking forward to graduation.”

Obama’s press secretary said in September that Obama “has every expectation to be the guest Commencement speaker” but the first lady was not officially scheduled to give the Commencement address until Monday, when the University announced it has logged more than 106,945 hours of community service.

The University-wide Commencement will take place on the National Mall May 16.
